Dub also refers to a popular genre of music derived from reggae. Musical dubbing doubling a recording or adding tracks supplied the name of Dub music. It influenced a genre of electronic dance music, dubstep , in London in the s, popularized by the musician Skrillex in the s.
Speaking of drugs, dub has named a cigarette in the s and then a marijuana joint in the s, perhaps as a form of doobie. Finally, dub can be short for the letter W , based on its pronunciation.
George W. Zoro vs Kaku is worth watching in eng. Love it. But the Jap VA is exceptional with his range and expresses all of sanji's personalities well. Here's a comparison of similar scenes: Spoilers if you aren't caught up with the Funimation DUb. Wtf did I just watch? So, apparently, I've only ever seen the FUNimation version.
But yeah, that 4Kids dub is terrible! I wouldn't blame anybody if they went to the Japanese version after seeing that! After the debacle Funimation has to send tapes of each "main" VA to Japan to get approval. That's a really interesting practice, though I would think that it would definitely up quality. Its mentioned in every on disc interview with the VAs. Best internet source I can find is this fantastic interview. The 4kids version is a distant memory now. Most people want to forget it existed, others bring it back up because of how amusing censored it was.
It is not bad at all. Anyone who says it's bad haven't seen other dubbed shows. But it will never be as good as the Japanese. The difference that I always notice between the two is that English voice actors try to "act" the character, while Japanese voice actors "live" the character, become the character.
I have yet to figure if this is just a matter of language and that if I am pretty fluent in Japanese I will think otherwise. But this is why I will always go with the Japanese. It maybe because I watched the Japanese first which lessens my acceptance of the English one. But I have seen Pirates of the Caribbean Japanese dubbed and it was really, really good. I think it's definitely because you aren't fluent in Japanese. How can you know if someone is doing a good job when they're speaking in a language you don't understand?
They could be using the wrong vocal inflections and putting emphasis on all of the wrong words and you would have no way to know. The sound of their voice and the tone are really the only things that carry over. It's either that or the Japanese are just some voice acting master race sent from the heavens The guys at FUNimation are all very good, experienced voice actors. It could also be partly because you watched the Japanese first.
So that's the voice you originally associated with the character. I think because The anime thing is mostly associated with Japan that they rank better in voice acting there.
It is taken more seriously because it's accepted throughout the country. So the standard there is very high. When Americans do voice acting for lesser serious cartoons, they excel at it. But when they dub anime, they always voice act in a cheesy way. I'm not that dope with Japanese.
Give me a new unsubbed episode from one piece and I can figure out the gesture of it. The voice acting can be recognized as really good even if I don't fully understand what's being said. I know, in my opinion, the Japanese voice acting is superior.
Well, I disagree. And I still don't think you can really judge voice acting in a language you don't understand. I don't think you're giving English voice actors enough credit. Those are just some of the bigger names. There are tons of awesome, talented English VAs. Watch the English dubs of Fullmetal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and tell me the voice acting in those shows wasn't spot on incredible. Well, I'm not really an anime guy mostly one piece , but I've watched one piece, DBZ, death note, and little hunterxhunter dubbed, and they all gave the same expression; good but often cheesy.
Well, the shows I named are all excellent. I promise. You should really give them a try. They're not really your typical anime either. I don't know what you mean by "not an anime guy" but they're top notch TV in general. If I'm to watch them I'll either watch them subbed or read the Manga. But maybe I will try one dubbed first. Watch Cowboy Bebop Dubbed then. It's pretty short and the dub is very good.
They're all very good. You should at least give them a chance. Well, I'm not sure if you know, but once upon a time, One Piece was picked up by 4Kids and their rendition of it was horrendous. That was the first english dub I've seen of One Piece and it was almost enough to turn me off of the series.
I then watched the Japanese dub and subsequently fell in love.
