There was ample sarcasm at play, of course. The provocative guitarist was expressing comic frustration at having to reign his instincts for rock abandon in order to accommodate the measured precision of symphonic accompaniment.

The outspoken Townshend has notoriously blown hot and cold about his band throughout his career. Judging by ticket sales, Who fans think the concept is a winner. Ridgeland, Tinley Park. Based on a conversation with my friend, Simon, I wanted to hear a show with "unholy Trinity" which was only played 3 times. I feel like a "jackpot winner"! What a great choice of CDs! Apparently the guy they must have hired to the mix up must have been out sick this night!

This CD not only is mixed fairly well, it's also a damn good performance! Pete always said he loved Jones Beach and was one of his favorite venues After listening to a bunch of stinkers, this one pulled me right in and put a big smile on my face!

If all the Encore CDs sounded this good OK, thrills aside Absolutely loved "Unholy Trinity" - Roger really nailed it. Makes me wonder why they dropped it - such a great song. They also did "Black Widow's Eyes" - this was the first time I heard this live too - it was really good!

It's just amazing what a good mix does - "Relay" sounded wonderful! Nice wide "Who" sound - great CD! My only "complaint" is about a performance issue.

I may have mentioned this 10 years ago or so, but Either they have to drop "My Generation" or Pino has to play the solos like John did. That "jazzy" bass solo that he does in place of John's is just "so wrong".

It was one of his "signature" pieces and to change it like this seems disrespectful to his memory. I know that's not the intent, but perception is reality. Comments: Great performances, buried under a Flat, dull mix. Added reverb in the vocals for no apparent reason. Comments: Flat mix. Pete's vocals almost completely mixed out. Excellent sound quality and very good mix - except that Pete's microphone vocals are mixed a bit too low.

I actually skipped the 2 MSG shows that preceded this show. In retrospect, I'm sorry that I did - these were really great concerts. But, you can't cry over missed concerts I had a really good seat - 19th row, dead center. I was surrounded by 18 year old college kids who somehow "won a contest" to get free tix to see The Who. When they saw me typing on my Blackberry, they asked me if I was "from the press".

I told them that I was sending messages to my Who mailing list and one of them blurted out, "Are you WhiteFang! This was the first time I heard the new music, live. This encore CD is really good. The band's performance is outstanding. Roger had a day off in-between shows and his vocals were excellent for most of the concert. He seemed to have a little problem with "Mirror Door", but other than that - he was just fine. Whoever set up the recording of this CD wasn't paying attention. What started out and ended as a really good mix, became disappointing as Pete's mic was turned down at some point and you have to strain to hear him singing "Eminence Front".
